Ok Groupon, Here's What You Do Now →
myre-view:
Another great article of my friend P. E. Gobry
Some excellent long-term ideas here. I’ll print out a few copies and leave them lying around the halls.

Soup: The Lonely Island Proves They are Smarter... →

The Lonely Island (you know, Andy Samberg and crew) have a new album coming out soon. Know how I know? They released a new music video on Saturday. The track is titled “I Just Had Sex”. It doesn’t have the sneaky naughtiness of “Jizz in My Pants” and doesn’t quite match the over-the-top-ness of “I’m on a Boat,” but I’m sure the album will sell just fine.
And then it...

Tom Scocca interview with David Foster Wallace
Q: Any particular configuration of beard or bandana or glasses? It seems to change over time.
DFW: So what, we're going to pretend, we're going to pretend that we're sitting in the same room?
Q: No.
DFW: I've never had a beard. I've tried periodically to grow a beard, and when it resembles, you know, the armpit of a 15-year-old girl who hasn't shaved her armpit, I shave it off. I do not have a head hanky on at this point, although I did recently, 'cause I just got back from running my dogs around the countryside.
Q: OK. How many dogs?
DFW: This is what's technically known as "soft news," isn't it?
Q: Yes. So how many dogs?
DFW: I have two dogs, who need a great deal of exercise to keep damage from being done to the house.

Crain’s:
After struggling to cancel a cell phone contract later that year, Mr. Mason became interested in collective action. In an early interview with a tech blog, he attributes the basic Groupon concept to “an overactive sense of vengeance,” wondering, “What if we just got everyone on the web who had this problem to refuse to abide by (cell phone companies’) terms and just...

Hands down — this 2006 version is fabulous. The spots and dirt have been wiped clean, the sharpness and contrast are arguably better than what film audiences saw 60 years ago. There are no ragged spots, no jumped frames and no lint, fiber or hair fragments along the edges or jumping across the screen. I believe the technicians at Paramount (which acquired Republic Pictures Home Video)...

Are some things still worth dying for?
“Is the American idea one such thing? Are you up for a thought experiment? What if we chose to regard the 2,973 innocents killed in the atrocities of 9/11 not as victims but as democratic martyrs, “sacrifices on the altar of freedom”? In other words, what if we decided that a certain baseline vulnerability to terrorism is part of the price of the American idea? And, thus, that ours is a...
