Living legend Levon Helm from The Band brings his famous “Midnight Ramble” sessions to the Old Town School for two highly anticipated performances. Levon’s Midnight Rambles are based loosely on the southern medicine shows of his youth, inviting a who’s who of rock, blues and jazz to his barn in Woodstock, New York for loose, yet musically inspired jams. For our Blue Jean Gala, Levon will transform the Old Town School stage into one of these famously intimate rave-ups.The very special guest for both nights is none other than Donald Fagen who will be performing with Levon Helm’s band for the entire performance. And, yes! You can expect to hear a few Steely Dan hits!Special guests on Friday are Paul Barrere & Fred Tackett a.k.a. “The Guitarists of Little Feat”. These long standing groove gurus will perform a short opening set as well as sit in with the Levon Helm band.Special guest on Saturday night is singer-songwriter Shawn Mullins who, in addition to performing a short opening set, will also sit in with Levon.Proceeds from this event provide support for the Old Town School’s new building and program expansion.

From Chicagoist:
Chicago is still America’s most segregated city:

A report from the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research found that while Chicago has experienced significant decline in racial segregation in the past decade, it still remains the most segregated city in the United States. The Sun Times reports the study, conducted by professors from Harvard and Duke, both fellows at a conservative think tank, examined data dating all the way back to 1890 and found that cities in America are more integrated than any time since 1910. The report also found that “all white neighborhoods are effectively extinct.”

What are your thoughts on the study? Is Chicago really the most segregated city in the U.S.?

Big protests set for early in week of NATO/G8 summits: With protests planned before and during the NATO/G8 summits, Ald. Rick Munoz says he’ll introduce legislation in the City Council to prohibit police from blocking access to social-networking sites and cellphone networks during the summits.
Under what conditions (if any) should authorities be able to restrict social media/cell phone networks?
